CFP Eye of the Storm
It is hurricane season on the Eastern Seaboard in September, and the CrossFit Providence Eye of the Storm throwdown will be just as fierce. Each competitor will be challenged in 6 scored events, with a final event for the top 12 athletes. When you are not throwing down, or throwing up, check out one of the many top notch restaurants in Providence, or take a walk down Federal Hill, or through Waterplace park, and check out the last WaterFire of the year, held on Saturday evening.

The CF Providence EYE of the storm is filling up.  On 08/20 – 88 competitors have signed up, with one month to go this is going to be a great comp!  Not your everyday WOD in the box, this event promises some great creativity!

Please check you heat assignments for Sunday, there are a few changes to heats.  The timeline has not changed much, just what time you are wodding may have.  You can access that HERE

We will try to push WOD 2 schedule depending on number of judges available.  Athletes meeting is at 8:20.  judges meeting at 8AM

The Final Workout involves ROPES.  Bring shoes that can sustain a rope climb.  We are selling Reebok Nano 2.0 for $90.  They are great rope climbing sneakers.  Top 8 RX and Scaled Advance to final, Top 4 of each Master’s Division.

If you did not get your competitors T-Shirt, and it was not due to a size discrepancy, please look for Kiwi Josh (Tall Bald Guy With A Funny Accent!!!)

Weather Forecast is predicting rain, quite fitting weather for the Eye of the Storm!

We will have TWO WOD areas, one inside, and one outside, adding a touch of constantly varied to the programming!

Registration for competitors will start at 7:30 and continue until 8:30 AM.  At 8:30 we will have an athletes meeting.  First heats will go off by 9:10 sharp!  Heat assignments will be posted and emailed on Thursday!

Judges meeting will be at 8AM.  Jesse Cook from CrossFit New London is Head Judge all weekend long.

Parking is important. Here are the two lots where you can park.  We will have people posted to help you find these lots.

The front part of this lot will be left for a tent city!  Bring your tent, bring your fans, bring a cooler!  Besides having a kick ass BBQ Joint on the premises, we will also be serving Beer, Harpoon Cider and Wine for those who wish to partake in an adult beverage!  21+  Only

Lastly, we will have a limited supply of Reebok Nano’s for sale.  We will be offering a very nice discount off of retail price to cash paying competitors.

The time has come to announce the full weekend event schedule.  Heats, a schedule of days events, and  and times will be emailed to all competitors and posted by Thursday evening.   All competitors will participate in 6 scored events.  The top 8 in the Men and Women’s RX and Scaled divisions, and the Top 4 in each of the Master’s Divisions will compete in a Seventh WOD for Prizes!

The workouts are:

SATURDAY

Workout 1 

AMRAP 9 min 

RX: 30 Power Clean, 30 Front Squat, 100 Double Unders  135#/95#

Scaled – Same movements and reps, weights will be 95#/65# with 50 Double Unders OR 200 Singles (4 singles count as 1 double)

At the start of each round you must choose one or the other, you cannot mix and match, 120 singles and 20 doubles.

Workout 2

6 minutes to find 5RM Push Press/Push Jerk

Barbell will start from floor (first rep only).  You cannot split jerk weight.  Once you put weight on you cannot take it off, if you do 60 sec penalty.   Arms must fully lockout with weight under control at the top for each rep.

Workout 3 

10 minute Time Limit

1000M Row, 50 Thrusters 45#, AMRAP Burpees

Everyone uses same weight.  There will be NO STRAPS on the rower.

Workout 4   

5 minutes to find Max Weight of Left plus Right Arms

1 handed deadlift. Hold at top for one one thousand count.

SUNDAY

Workout 5

12 minute AMRAP

RX: 10 Over The Box Jumps (30/24), 20 Wall Balls (20/14) to 10′ Mark

Must JUMP onto Box

Scaled: 10 Over The Box Jumps (24/20), 20 Wall Balls (14/10) to 10′ Mark

Can Step onto Box, do not have to jump.

Workout 6

7 min AMRAP

RX: 21 Hand Release Push Ups, 21 KB Swings 32kg/24kg

Arms must be fully extended overhead

Scaled: 21 KB Swings 24kg/16 kg, 21 Push Ups (Chest to AbMat)

FINAL

To Be Announced After Workout 6.  Without giving the workout away, we have 18 foot ceilings and ropes, if that matters to anyone.

We are exceeding $3500 in prizes for top finishers, we have Preppy Pig BBQ on hand to serve up some amazing food, and there will be Harpoon Cider available for all those spectators who will looking to party while they watch the sweat and tears of the competition!
