The Garage Games

Coach Patrick

Each event allows the community to come together, supporting one another and it’s a guarantee that you will see people pushing themselves beyond their expectations, setting new PR’s and feeling stronger than they ever imagined.

“At first I didn’t get what CrossFit was all about. My brother would send me text messages of workouts to try and I would attempt them, but it didn’t quite make sense – I’d think to myself, “how can I possibly do pull-ups for 20 minutes?” (he suggested that I try Cindy once on my own, having never done CrossFit). It wasn’t until my first real CrossFit WOD at Oregon Crossfit that I really began to understand. I had just finished Grad School (getting my MBA at Willamette University) and was lucky enough to join the Oregon CrossFit affiliate team in a WOD as they prepared for the 2010 CrossFit Games. I remember being able to hang with them for about 2 minutes and then I remember crawling my final 800m run to finish the workout (but they made sure I finished). Ever since then, I have continued coming back for more and have fully started to appreciate what Crossfit is all about; the community working together to help one another improve.”

Patrick has embraced the community aspect of CrossFit, which is why we see him as such a great ambassador!  “Since my rough introduction to CrossFit in June of 2010, I have become an active member of the CrossFit community. I have become a part-time coach at Oregon CrossFit, enjoying every opportunity to help others in my free time. I have judged at Regionals and helped my brother (Sean Wells) organize the Oregon Games events over the past few years. I also try to attend every local event I can: either competing, judging, volunteering or cheering, I love being involved in the CrossFit scene.”

“I’m very excited for the growth of Garage Games in the Pacific Northwest and the chance to be involved in more events. It seems like there are more events than ever before and it’s awesome. Each event allows the community to come together, supporting one another and it’s a guarantee that you will see people pushing themselves beyond their expectations, setting new PR’s and feeling stronger than they ever imagined. I will forever remember watching the crowd encourage and support some scaled athletes in the past Oregon Winter Games as they faced a WOD that may seem impossible and continue to battle, not only setting a PR, but doing it again and again! I would encourage everyone to find the next available competition and test yourself, you may be surprised what you are capable of!”

Patrick can be found at Oregon Crossfit in Bend, OR almost every afternoon. Working out, coaching, helping others with extra practice after class, or around the months of August and January starting to prepare for the Oregon Games events. If you haven’t met him yet, please introduce yourself at the next Garage Games event!
