Abbie Evans

Abbie

My name is Abbie Evans and I am a Level 2 CrossFit Trainer at CrossFit Academy Rex in Arlington, TX.

I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 2 and a half years now, and at 22 years old, I’m just enjoying seeing how high my potential is. I am sponsored by VOA Fitness and represent CrossFit Academy Rex at local competitions and maybe one day at a higher level. My main priority is taking care of my clients at Academy Rex. Winning competitions on the weekends is a hobby.

RX Men Tied for FIRST

Arik McGathey

Arik

Before succumbing to the Crossfit bug, Arik played varsity sports through high school and college. He began following the Crossfit main site in 2010 after seeing the life-changing results his brother had gained through the program. When college friends started asking to join Arik for workouts, he got his first taste of training.  Now he can’t wait to get to the box to help more people realize their potential, using Crossfit to overcome physical and mental challenges.

Being surrounded by a family of crossfitters, it was only a matter of time before I caught the bug. I started doing CrossFit consistently in the summer of 2014 while I was home for the summer from school and really started to enjoy it! I was not able to continue working out as much during the school semester, and so I looked forward to coming home over Christmas break to my family’s gym in Clarksville, TN. My dad signed me up for the WWW, my first-ever competition, and I had a lot of fun! I’ve always been involved in either soccer or volleyball, so CrossFit offers a whole new level of fitness, and I look forward to more competitions in the future!

Beginner Men WINNER

I am 34 years old & I started the fundamentals crossfit classes in Oct ’14.  Before I started crossfit, I was in average shape.  (Whatever that is.) I basically just did pushups, sit ups, & ran a couple times a week.  I worked out just enough so that my clothes would always fit me.

I can honestly say that joining Chicago Heights Crossfit was one of the best decisions of my life.  Back in October, I was starting to experience the Chicago fall/ winter blues & was concluding a disappointing divorce.  Crossfit filled many of the voids in my life.  It gave me the opportunity to workout competitively, have fun while doing it, & become part of a team.  The people at the gym are great & made my “new guy” transition very smooth.  I was hooked within the first month, although, the first 6 weeks were very painful.  I had muscles hurting that I didn’t know even existed.  I hadn’t squatted or cleaned and jerked since high school so certain movements were very foreign to me.  I still have a long road to travel, however, every day I look forward to making new PRs & setting new goals.

Thank you for the opportunity to tell my story.  I look forward to emailing you next year after I win again!!  It will be one of the scaled divisions though.

Stacey Ackerman

I am 37 years old.  I have been married for 10 years and we have two boys that are 6 and 8 years old. We live in Canby, Oregon.  I work as a School Counselor and love my job.  My husband, Scott and I own a business called The Bat Company which involves baseball and softball training and coaching teams.  We are a big sports family and are very active.  I have been doing Crossfit for a little over a year and love it.  As a former collegiate softball player, joining Crossfit has been the first thing I have done since then that has fulfilled my desire to compete.  Every time I walk into Crossfit Formidable, I hope to walk out better mentally and physically.

I love the challenge, I love the people, the coaches, and I love the opportunities!  The WWW was my first competition, and I enjoyed it immensely.  I hope to stay healthy so I can continue learning and getting stronger and better at Crossfit.

Masters Men Scaled 30 WINNER

Robbie McDaniel

RobbieWWW

My name is Robbie McDaniel, I’m 37 years old, and I have been Crossfitting since January 2014. I have had spurts of globo-gym attendance over the last 10+ years but always have found an excuse to fall away within a couple months of starting a program. I thought I had a good excuse for not sticking with it, being married for 17 years, having 4 kids and a business owner for the past 13 years there is always a good reason why I would stop going. But, it was different when I started Crossfit.

When I started, my 13 year old son, J.R., started with me at the same time. We train at Crossfit Oconee and they are the absolute best when it comes to the kids. The owners, Michael and Nikki Clarke are real big in the community with the teenage athletes using Crossfit to help them train in whatever sports they are involved with. So once I saw how much they not just accepted J.R. at 13 years old, but also encouraged him and lifted him up, I knew it would last longer than the typical few months.

It got even better a few months later when my wife Samantha and my daughter Hope (11) joined in. My two little ones Jake (5) and Jason (4) have already been asking when they get to start going. When one of them has too much energy and is bouncing off the walls the new punishment is 20 burpees!

The recent World Wide WOD was the first event I have competed in. I decided to enter in the scaled division since I still can’t do those stupid double unders! My goal for 2015 is to master those blasted DU’s and also get a Muscle Up. I hope to enter next years WWW event at the RX division.

Next on the agenda is the Garage Games One, where My wife, Son, Daughter and myself are all competing together! We are just having a blast doing Crossfit as a family. Many thanks to CFO for supporting the kids, it’s given our family something in common we can all enjoy together!

Scaled 40 Men and Women – WINNERS

Kim and Steve Wilson both took home first place honors in their divisions.  Congratulations!!

KimSteveWWW

We are the winners of the Masters Scaled 40-49 age group.  I am an 8th grade Algebra 1 and Pre-Algebra teacher and my husband owns his own construction company, Wilson Contracting.  We have one daughter, Andee Kelly, that is a nurse.   We started running about 5 years ago and kept getting injured.  I have RA and osteoporosis and my husband was having issues with his feet and shins.  A friend recommended that we go to his gym to strengthen everything up for running.  That is how we came to love picking up heavy stuff (and not running so much anymore).

We train at the greatest gym in the world, Versus Strength and Conditioning in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  It has the most incredible trainers, programming and members imaginable and we owe any success we have had to it.  Our coaches encouraged us a little over a year ago to try competing and we were hooked.   Stephen has won 6 competitions  including last year’s World Wide Wod Resolutions and had two second place finishes.  I have won a couple, placed second twice, and third once (and had fun just competing at some). I placed tenth in last year’s World Wide Wod and I really wanted to improve my times from last year.  We were both thrilled when we were first in the Karena and Grace Wods.  I was able to shave over a minute off my Grace time of 1:32 (one of my proudest moments).  We hope to one day have double unders so we can move into the RX division. So far my husband’s foot issues and my stress fractures (Helena was the first time I had done 200 singles since May due to the last fracture) have kept us from training them consistently.  I would encourage anyone that thinks they might want to compete to consider the World Wide Wod since you compare your times to the previous year and see how you stack up against others your age and ability level.  If I can do it , anyone can…I was not an athlete at any point in my life, but I feel like one now.  It’s scary to do your first competition at 45, but it also exhilarating!

The Garage Games was my first Crossfit competition and it  marked my one year anniversary to Crossfit. I previously competed in Ironman Triathlons (way back when I was young), marathons, and 50k trail races. I am a stay at home mom to four wonderful children and am married to my awesome husband Larry who introduced me to Crossfit.

RX 50+ Women – WINNER

I was introduced to CrossFit during personal training for Olympic weightlifting.  The personal challenge of daily WODs became an obsession to say the least.  The strength gained from CrossFit and Oly lifting mapped over to more successful dirt bike racing and winning my first championship!  I now have my CF L1 and partner in a CrossFit affiliate also coaching Olympic Weightlifting with Sports Performance certification through USAW.

Aside from the Resolutions win, my most recent achievement that I am quite proud of is winning the Garage Games
Winter Ice Storm January 5th, 2015, division 50+ (female). I have placed in the top 10 of two Masters Functional Fitness League on-line competitions and am 1 of 2 North Central Team Coaches in that league. I also participate in the Open.

Other achievements in my adult life include 2012 Kansas US Weight Lifting Open 53K class 2nd place, 2012 Iron Turkey 53K class 1st place, 2012 Midwest Off Road Events Ladies Champion, 2013 Midwest Off Road Events Ladies A 2nd place, 2012 Off Road Cup Ironwoman 3rd place and Team Captain in the 2002 Outward Bound 170 mile relay in Colorado covering 4 mountain passes.

I have a wonderful husband, daughter, and son who all workout with me.   It’s a family activity we that we enjoy together and keeps us close.

After having a spinal fusion in 1999 with a metal rod down my back and having Doctors tell me I could never lift over 50 lbs again and having the awful habit of smoking over 28 years, I had just let myself get down and out, BUT I have conquered both thanks to Crossfit.  I feel better at 50 than I have ever felt and I can keep up with my 25 yr old son and my 20 yr old daughter at every WOD we do together!  I recommend the Garage Games to everyone!  There is fun and encouragement every time I have participated.

I started CrossFit around three years ago after my daughter Heather who’s now on team Invictus encouraged me to try it. I was hooked after my first workout at a local crossfit gym. At the time I never realized where it would take me. After about a year of very intense training I qualified for the games in the Masters division in 2013.
It’s been an incredible experience and I’ve got to meet some great people through it all.
We have four awesome kids Who have all caught the passion for fitness: Heather ( team Invictus) , Joelle (did beginner division and won – www was her first Crossfit competition), Jonathan and Troy both avid crossfitters.
I love being in the best shape of my life and competitions only help me grow stronger thanks again Worldwide wod for the opportunity
