The Garage Games

“Garage Games (GG) is important to the community because the events cater to the elite, the middle and the beginners. They encourage anyone to compete at any level.”   –Crystal McCullough

If you’ve been to one our Garage Games Series events in the Southeast, chances are you’ve run into Crystal McCullough.

Crystal has been competing in Garage Games events since March 2011. She won her first scaled competition that same year and now competes in the RX division. This fall she just had two RX division podium finishes.  Crystal never meets a stranger, and is a supportive friend and cheerleader for so many in the tight-knit CrossFit community.

Her goal since her first competition has been to qualify for The CrossFit Games Regionals to get the chance to compete for one of the highly coveted podium spots and move on to The CrossFit Games.  In a recent interview, McCullough talked about her dream of making it to The CrossFit Games. “Will I? I don’t know. But, I will train like I am,” she said. “I love this journey of CrossFit and the amazing people near and far that God has placed in my path,” she continued. She said that pushing herself beyond her limits is the reason for what she does.

The Garage Games Series has been very important in Crystal’s development as an athlete. She told us that GG allowed her to compete and gain confidence even when she wasn’t up to the caliber of other athletes. As evidenced by Crystal’s progress, she has taken full advantage of the benefits of the GG partnership with  local CrossFit affiliates that bring competitions to local communities.

Although Crystal started her CrossFit career in Alabama, she’s now coaching and training at Junction City Crossfit. Crystal is married and has a son. The McCullough family trains together at CrossFit Manhattan Kansas. Crystal is coached by CrossFit Games competitor and is also a part of Team LatitudeGearRx.
